Review: Kodak Gallery Photo Books
Kodak Gallery recently revamped its site, making it more user friendly and adding a variety of new products including a new selection of photo book styles and sizes. When visiting the site for my review I found the new interface makes creating custom photo books quick and easy. New SMARTFIT Technology automatically fills photo books in seconds and you can add photos in the order they were taken - a huge time saver.
Prices are competitive and there are frequent discounts.
Photo Book Sizes and Cover Options
Photo book sizes range from small (5 x 5.75) to medium (9x10.25) and large (12x14) ranging from $9.99 for small books, $29.99 for medium books, to $69.99 (for standard 20 pages) depending on the cover material and size. Users may personalize their photo book with a variety of styles including wedding, travel, and baby and a range of cover options including large window hardcover, printed hardcover, leather, linen hardcover, soft cover (paperback) with a personalized cover, and even a selection of Martha Stewart designs.
Photo Books are professionally bound and images are prints on archival-quality glossy paper. Pocket size books (5x5.75) are printed on extra heavy, archival quality glossy paper with a soft cover and cloth tape binding.
Photo Book Creation
Kodak Gallery has simplified the photo book creation process. Choose your size and you'll get a display of all available cover options including the price and range of number of pages for that style. Once you pick your cover style, you can select your page design. Uploading 46MB of images took about 6 minutes. Once you upload or select your images, just drag and drop them into your photo book layout. You can change layouts or page designs anytime and add text, including a full page of text. However, you can only choose one page background and that will apply to the whole book.
Once photos are in your book, you can enlarge them or click and drag to reposition. New resize and move features that enable you to fully customize the details of each page. Easily resize, rotate, tilt and overlay your photos. Text boxes are now movable as well.
Editing: You can convert to black and white or sepia tone. Other editing such as red eye removal and contrast/lighting adjustments need to be done from your Kodak album before you start the photo book creation process. One other point to remember, the software doesn't allow you to reorganize the page order.

A real advantage of Kodak Gallery is how easy they make it for you to incorporate photos from friends who have shared their albums with you. So once your friends have uploaded their photos to their account and shared the album with you, you can grab their photos for your album, you don't have to hassle with asking them to email you photos and then upload them yourself. This is especially handy for sports groups and other organizations.
